LAVA FLOW UPDATE: March 8th 2008 1930 hrs.

Current conditions: easy - moderate hike. Great lava flows, not so great crowd. Once 22 cars are in main parking area, gate closes for others until one of those 22 decides to come out. This can be a long wait. If you dont want to wait you must add an additional 2 miles of walking one way. The line of cars from the gate was approximately 1 mile long at 1430 hrs on Saturday shortly after 22 cars filled up the main parking area. It is reccommended to go an hour early during a weekday to get a good spot. Cliff edge and ocean entry areas can be very dangerous. If you go please respect the aina and help pick up any rubbish you may find. Help us leave the area looking better than the way we found it.
